Sister Sue Elwyn, SSJD is a life-professed member of the Anglican religious order the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine. Sister Sue was born and raised in the US, in a family of atheists. She became a theist at the age of 34, was baptized into the Episcopal Church in the US 6 years later and entered SSJD at the age of 50. Prior to her entry into the religious life, she pursued (and finally caught) a PhD in Ancient History from the University of Pennsylvania (it took her 17 years), and in the mean time had a checkered career as admissions assistant in a private school, a medical editor, a temp secretary (smartest course she ever took was the high-school typing class), and later a (very temporary) university professor and (equally temporary) private high-school teacher. Since joining SSJD, Sr Sue has had a number of different assignments, but is fondest of spiritual direction, leading retreats and quiet days and liturgy. Poetry has been erupting in her for about 25 years. She sees her blog-site as a place to publish what comes out without needing to actually discuss it with anyone. To put it a different way, she likes to put out her ideas and let other people get on with them.
